Downloading music online

You can discover and download music online on Ovi Music. Extend your music collection by downloading your favorite tracks and also discover new artists and hits.

You can play the music you have downloaded, create playlists, and transfer music to your device.

If you are using an Ovi Music Unlimited device and have activated your Ovi Music service in Nokia Ovi Suite,

you are ready to make the most of your music device by downloading music for free. For more information,

With an Ovi Music Unlimited device you get unlimited music downloads from millions of free tracks on Ovi.

The music you download is yours to keep - forever. In addition to world-famous hits, you are also offered favourite music from your country.

You can browse the music that is available online on Ovi and download any track you want for free. You can create playlists, play the music on your Ovi Music Unlimited device and on your computer, and transfer the downloaded tracks between these two.

Activating your Ovi Music Unlimited service is easy:

enter the Ovi Music Unlimited activation PIN code, which you received in a text message when you first turned on your device or was included in the sales package, or just click Activate if no PIN code is required.

Your Ovi Music Unlimited device and computer are now registered to the service and you are ready to make the most of your music device.

The music you download with your Ovi Music Unlimited device is in the WMA format and protected by Windows Media DRM. Note that you need a licence to transfer or play copy protected WMA tracks. For more information

To play copy protected tracks in your music collection or to transfer them to your mobile device, you need a licence. If a track is missing a licence, you may need to go online to download or purchase it from Ovi Music.

Ovi Music only supports DRM (Digital Rights Management) licences in the Windows Media format (WM DRM). DRM licences control the usage of digital content.

When you transfer a copy protected track from your computer to your mobile device, a transfer licence which allows the track to be played on the mobile device is generated on the computer or downloaded from the music store where you originally bought the track.

This licence is then transferred along with the track. Some tracks may have only a limited number of transfer rights. If the track does not have enough transfer rights remaining, you may need to get a new licence from the music store before transferring the track to your mobile device.

Downloading music with another Nokia device

If you are using a Nokia device other than an Ovi Music Unlimited device, you can still browse and search music online on Ovi Music. You can then buy the tracks you want to download. The tracks are DRM-free and in MP3 format, which means you can transfer them to any device you like.

If you have no credit left in your Nokia account to buy tracks, click Add credit in Nokia Ovi Suite. This takes you to Ovi Music online where you can add credit to your account. Then return to Nokia Ovi Suite and continue exploring the music that is on offer.

Downloading voice guidance files

You can download a voice guidance file to be used with the maps you have downloaded.

A voice guidance file offers turn-by-turn instructions on how to find your way to the defined destination.

Your device uses the downloaded voice guidance file when you are using the device's Maps application.

When downloading voice guidance files, it is better to use a USB cable connection instead of Bluetooth, because this makes the downloading much faster.

To download a voice guidance file, do the following:

Select Voice guidance languages in the navigation area.

Select the language you want the guidance in.

Either click Download, or drag the language file onto the device's image. The language file is then downloaded from the map server and automatically transferred to your device.

To view which maps and voice guidance languages you have on your device, click All in the device area.

Device applications' installation

You can install device applications that are provided by Nokia, as well as applications provided by third-party service providers.

You can install many Nokia applications on your device with the software updates wizard. You are notified when device applications are available to install.

Once you get to the Get Started window of the software updates wizard, the available applications are listed in the following priority order:

1.required

2.important

3.recommended

4.optional.

Sometimes you may need to install the new, required applications to your device. The required applications are on top of the list.

Due to the significance of the required applications, they are selected by default and cannot be deselected.

The required applications are needed for your device to work properly and enable you to get the most out of your device.

You can check what the application's priority status is, and get more information about the application, by highlighting it and reading the status and additional info from the information area.

When you click Install, the required applications, and any additional applications you have selected, are installed on your device.

If you come across an application you would like to install on your device, double-click the application's installation file, or drag the file onto your device's image in the device area. Then click OK in the dialogue that opens. This will start the application installation.

If you are starting the application installation from the internet, click the download link of the application, and choose to open it with Nokia Ovi Suite in the dialogue that follows.

The supported installation file types for device applications are the following:

1.sis

2.sisx

3.jar

4.n-gage

5.wgz

Internet connections overview

You can use your mobile device to connect a computer to the internet. To do this, you need to have your mobile device connected to the computer via a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

Good to know about internet connections

Take into account that in addition to the standard fees for an internet connection, extra fees can be charged by the network operator if you are connecting to the internet outside of your home network.

Transferring large amounts of data over an internet connection may lead to high data transfer costs. Nokia Ovi Suite displays a warning message when you have transferred a certain amount of data over an internet connection.

If you want to change the amount of transferred data for which the warning message is displayed, go to Tools > Options > Connect to internet. You can also choose not to display the warning message at all.

When the warning message is displayed, you can still continue with the data transfer if you wish. If you disconnect from the internet, the ongoing data transfer is also interrupted.

Nokia Ovi Suite uses Internet Explorer's proxy settings for internet connections, except for the proxy username and password.

If the internet connection does not seem to work, you can set the proxy username and password manually. To do so, select Tools > Options.

Proxy settings are available in the General tab. Contact your IT helpdesk personnel or similar if you need more information.

About Bluetooth connectivity

You can use Bluetooth wireless technology to connect a mobile device with Bluetooth connectivity to a compatible computer.

About pairing the device

If you are connecting your Nokia device to the computer via Bluetooth for the first time, you need to pair the devices.

Pairing means that you code two Bluetooth devices (here, a mobile device and a computer) to communicate so they can exchange data.

Pairing is done by using a passcode. You can use the random passcode generated by Nokia Ovi Suite.

The passcode is used only once and you do not need to memorize it.

When you activate Bluetooth for the first time on your mobile device, you may be asked to give a name to your device depending on the device model you are using.

This name will be used whenever you pair your device and the computer, and it can also been seen by other

Bluetooth device users.

Before connecting your device via Bluetooth, note the following:

You need to have Bluetooth hardware and software installed on your computer. For a list of the Bluetooth software versions that are supported by Nokia Ovi Suite, see System requirements.

To check which Bluetooth stack versions are installed on your computer, click Help > About Nokia Ovi Suite > System information.

Enable Bluetooth wireless technology on your computer.

Edit the Bluetooth settings of your mobile device. To do this, go to Settings > Connectivity or Connection depending on the term used on your device.

Turn Bluetooth on and make your device visible to other Bluetooth devices. Then other Bluetooth devices, such as your computer, are allowed to find your mobile device, and can start connecting to it.

Refer to the user guide of your device for more detailed instructions.

Nokia Ovi Suite

Connect your Nokia mobile device to the computer with a USB cable or Bluetooth wireless connection.

Sign into Ovi online services and you can keep your device and computer in sync,

update your device with the latest software, keep your valuable content safe and accessible everywhere,

and share your photos and videos on ovi.com

When connecting your mobile device to the computer via a USB cable, make sure you select the correct

USB mode for the connection in your mobile device.

There are several USB modes to choose from. To be able to use your device with Nokia Ovi Suite, select

Nokia Ovi Suite (or PC Suite) USB mode.

You can only use Nokia Ovi Suite in the Nokia Ovi Suite (or PC Suite) USB mode.

If you select the mass storage mode and have Nokia Ovi Suite running, Nokia Ovi Suite automatically tries

to change the USB mode back to Nokia Ovi Suite (or PC Suite) mode.

The automatic change of USB mode does not happen with all device models.

To select the USB mode, do either of the following:

To select the USB mode separately each time you connect your device to the computer, select Nokia Ovi Suite (or PC Suite)

USB mode on your device when the device prompts you to choose the USB mode to be used.

To select Nokia Ovi Suite (or PC Suite) as a default USB mode on your device, go to Settings >

Connectivity or Connection depending on the term used on your device,

and under USB cable, select Nokia Ovi Suite (or PC Suite) USB mode. Then you do not need to select the

correct mode each time you connect your device to the computer.

Note that this is not possible with all device models.
